The Duke of Edinburgh Award, established by Prince Philip in 1956, is recognized in 144 countries with over 300,000 young people participating each year. It is the world's top youth achievement program. Recipients earn official medals and certificates from the Duke of Edinburgh Award Foundation — a lifelong honor recognized by top North American universities, global corporations, and employers. The North American university application system actively encourages students to include their DofE experience. Over the past 20 years, 80%+ of Ivy100 students bound for top US universities have participated, with 70%+ earning an award.

Three Levels of Achievement

The award has three levels — Bronze, Silver, and Gold — completed in sequence over 1–4 years, from ages 14 to 18. Each level requires completing four components: Skills Learning, Physical Recreation, Community Service, and an Outdoor Expedition. The challenge is self-improvement, not competition with others, encouraging young people to grow through balanced development, independence, resilience, and responsibility.

A Standout Application Asset

Award recipients are recognized as dedicated to community service, responsible, willing to challenge themselves, and possessing leadership and competitive spirit. North American university application systems specifically encourage including DofE experience. Ivy100's professional guidance supports participants through every stage — providing the structure, resources, and accountability needed to earn this prestigious distinction.
